Knee Arthroscopy
Keyhole surgery using a small HD camera inserted through tiny incisions — diagnosing and treating meniscal tears, ligament injuries, cartilage damage, and more without large incisions.
What is Knee Arthroscopy?
Knee arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure in which a small camera (arthroscope) and specialised instruments are inserted into the knee joint through 2–3 small incisions called portals. This allows the surgeon to visualise and treat the entire interior of the knee under HD magnification — with significantly less trauma to surrounding tissues compared to open surgery. Knee arthroscopy in Hyderabad is performed by Dr. Satish for a wide range of conditions, from diagnostic evaluation to complex ACL reconstruction, cartilage repair, and meniscal surgery.
How the Procedure Works
Portal Placement
Two or three small incisions (portals) are made at standardised positions around the knee for the arthroscope and working instruments.
Systematic Joint Inspection
The entire knee interior is examined under HD magnification — menisci, articular cartilage, ligaments, and synovium.
Therapeutic Intervention
Damaged tissue is repaired, debrided, or reconstructed according to the findings — meniscal repair, ACL reconstruction, chondroplasty.
Closure & Early Rehab
Portals are closed with sutures or steristrips; physiotherapy begins within 48 hours of surgery.
Same-Day Discharge
Most patients are discharged the same day; many return to light work within 1–2 weeks.
Outcomes
Who Needs This Treatment?
- →No large incisions — only 2–3 small portals of 5–10 mm
- →Same-day or next-day discharge for most procedures
- →Earlier return to work and activity vs. open surgery
- →Simultaneous diagnosis and treatment in a single procedure
- →Minimal blood loss and very low risk of post-operative infection
- →Performed under regional or general anaesthesia with minimal disruption
"Knee arthroscopy allows us to look inside the joint with a level of detail that no scan can match. We see exactly what is happening, treat it precisely, and the patient goes home the same day. It is one of the most rewarding procedures in orthopaedics."
